Moss and JDR Motorex KTM crowned in Queensland Super X Lites finale

JDR Motorex KTM’s Matt Moss captured his third career Pro Lites title in the Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, at Ipswich in Queensland on Saturday night, 19 November.

Moss, 23, scored his fourth win in five attempts this season for the JDR Motorex KTM team aboard the 250 SX-F, taking control of the traditional 15-lap main event and sealing the title in style with a win by 29 points.

“Today was a great day, because coming in with a 22-point lead my nerves were pretty settled,” Moss said. “I sat in second for most of the race before going into the lead and it means so much to me to wrap up the championship with a win.

“I’m heading off to America next year for the same team, so everything around me is great, the people are amazing to work with and I’m so happy to be with KTM. This is a dream come true for me because when you’re happy, the results show it.”

Moss will head to the United States early next month to commence his return to the AMA Supercross and Motocross series, riding for the Australian-owned JDR Motorsports team and KTM.

Queenslander Brenden Harrison crashed out for the second week in succession, however his results earlier in the series cemented him fourth place in the title chase. Harrison suffered injuries to his head and hand in the accident, but did return to the circuit later in the evening to support his team.

Coastal KTM team rider Robbie Marshall finished seventh in what was his home round of the year, the result locking him into ninth overall in the Lites series.

In the premier Pro Open class, JDR Motorex KTM’s Tye Simmonds finished second in Ipswich and for the 2011 series aboard the 450 SX-F. Simmonds entered the round just five points off series leader Jay Marmont, who he trailed in the 20-lap main event.

“I take my hat off to Jay, he’s a deserving champion and rode a solid 20 laps tonight to get it done,” 19-year-old Simmonds said. “I have to give it up for the whole JDR Motorex KTM team and my family as well. We just confirmed I’ll be back with the team in 2012, so hopefully we can go one better next year.”

A ninth place finish in Ipswich gave Wollongong’s Ryan Marmont eighth in his rookie Pro Open season with the 350 SX-F, while his Queensland teammate Dan Reardon was ninth in the series after suffering a DNF in the final round.
