InsureMyRide/Triumph Race Report - ASBK Supersport R2, Hidden Valley

Thursday we awoke to rain and headed to the track to prepare for practicing. All the hard work of setting up the pit area had been completed the night before, after the team transporter arrival from Melbourne. The rain had stopped and the track was dry before the start of our first practice session. The timetable allowed for four practice sessions and Mitch achieved a best time of 1:10.297, which was recorded in the second session. The team was happy with all session times but needed to achieve consistent times in the 1:10’s.

Friday was another good day at the track. We completed two practice sessions in dry conditions and while we did not match our best time of yesterday we did achieve consistent laps in the 1:10’s. At the end of practicing Mitch had the fastest time of 1:10:409, 2nd was Glen Scott with a time of 1:10:612 and 3rd was Joss Hook with a time of 1:10:858, followed by B Waters and C Quinn.

Saturday schedule was two qualifying sessions followed by Superpole. The weather forecast predicted rain, which never arrived. Glen Scott put in a very good lap time in the first qualifier of 1:10.382, which we were unable to match. Mitch’s best time was 1:10.443, followed by Josh Hook with a 1:10.501. The times of the second qualifying session were not as good as Q1. Glen Scott record the best time of 1:10.912 followed by Mitch with a time of 1:10.943 and Chris Quinn was third with a time of 1:11.305.

First up for the Superpole was Brodie Waters who set a time of 1:11.470, Josh Hook followed with a time of 1:11.263. Mitch was third out and recorded a time of 1:10.677 but Glen Scott did just enough to win Superpole with a time of 1:10.561. Having watched all four riders complete their laps Mitch looked the smoothest and the team was quietly confident of a good result in both races.

The Sunday morning sky was dark with cloud as the rain fell. By the time we reached the track the rain had stopped but there was a glimmer of hope for a dry track. The weather had changed for the first race and with the final checks made the InsureMyRide Triumph was ready. On the front row was Glen Scott in Pole, Mitch second and Josh Hook third. At the start both Glen and Josh got ahead of Mitch into turn one. By turn three Mitch had gained the lead and was closely followed by Glen and Josh, who where chasing second position. Mitch continued to apply the pressure and by half distance the gap between first and second started to increase and the challenge fell away. Mitch ran consistent lap times in the 1:10’s and won by 4.8 sec. Glen Scott 2nd, Josh Hook 3rd, Brodie Waters 4th, Chris Quinn 5th.

In the second race Mitch lead for the first three laps but was closely followed by josh Hook, who took the lead in turn one on lap four. Mitch passed Josh again to lead at the end of lap six. There was only a 1/10th of a sec separating the two riders and going into the last lap Josh was leading going into the hairpin but left a gap just big enough for Mitch to get through on the inside. Mitch held the lead to the line and won by 0.2 sec. Josh Hook was 2nd, Glen Scott 3rd, Brodie Waters 4th, Chris Quinn 5th. The InsureMyRide Triumph of Aark racing took a well-deserved round win.

Mitch now leads the championship by 11.5 points from Josh Hook and we look forward to Qld Raceway to take on the challenge of extending our lead on the AARK Racing InsureMyRide Triumph.
