Villopoto's 4th Win on Brutal Daytona Layout
Competitors in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series were greeted by the roughest track of the season with a brutal layout on the infield of Daytona International Speedway. Riders had to work harder and longer than they are accustomed to, but the results were much the same with big names racing to the front in the night program.
Dan Reardon was placed 11th in his heat and 7th in the last chance qualifier missing the final. His current position in the AMA Supercross Series is 21st.
Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto put on a dominating performance leading all 20 laps on the way to his first career Daytona Supercross victory. Villopoto was initially leading when a horrific crash by Grant Langston bought the red flags out and stopped the race. When the race restarted, Villopoto again got the jump out of the gate, with rival with series leader Ryan Dungey behind Josh Hill in third place.
The win was Villopoto's fourth of the AMA Supercross season while Dungey maintains a 20-point lead in the AMA Supercross standings.
Chad Reed attempted a return to racing, the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider recording the best time in the first qualifying practice. However, pain from his recovering injury prevented him from any further racing.
Next week the series moves to Toronto, Canada.
