2.    Links to other websites

2.1    An Online Site may contain applications or links to other websites (including other social media websites and some linked competition websites such as ‘Rider of the Month’ photo competition) which are owned or operated by third parties independent of InsureMyRide (“Third Party Sites”). InsureMyRide does not sponsor, endorse or approve of the operators of Third Party Sites, or material (including services, information, graphics, or data) which is located on such Third Party Sites (“Third Party Material”). 2.5    When following a link on an Online Site, material at a Third Party Site may be displayed in your browser framed by Site Content. This material is also Third Party Material for the purpose of these Online Terms.

3.    Your privacy

3.1    Your privacy and security is important to InsureMyRide. Read terms 24 to 32 for information (the 'Privacy Statement' component) about how InsureMyRide handles the information you provide it when you use one of our Online Sites.

4.    InsureMyRide’s Online Site: product information and insurance purchase and renewal

4.1    Online Site content
The InsureMyRide Online Site contains both information of a general nature about InsureMyRide and InsureMyRide’s products and services, and also enables you to purchase and pay for some insurance products and services online.

The InsureMyRide Online Site may, where InsureMyRide provides the  functionality online, enable you to renew some insurance products and services online and to view, manage and change your InsureMyRide policies online using InsureMyRide’s ‘self service’ function available at the ’My Insurance’ part of the Online Site (the “My Insurance Site”) subject to these Online Terms, including the specific terms of use for that service set out in term 6.

4.2    Completing transactions on the Online Sites

4.2.1    When entering into a transaction via the Online Site, whether it be for the issuance of an insurance contract, a renewal payment, or a transaction relating to any other product or service, the transaction will not be completed until an “Electronic Instruction” (being any electronic instruction, information, message, request or communication issued or transmitted to InsureMyRide via the Online Site) containing the acceptance from you of InsureMyRide’s offer, or the confirmation of payment (being payment received from you), whichever is applicable, has been received and processed by InsureMyRide, and any specific steps or requirements as set out in this term 4, have been complied with.

4.2.2    You acknowledge that on occasion, the transmission of your acceptance or the confirmation of any payment, made through an Electronic Instruction, may be delayed or not received at all by InsureMyRide in accordance with this term 4 for reasons beyond either parties’ reasonable control including, but not limited to, mechanical, software, computer, telecommunications, or electronic failure, or the omission or failure of third party service providers or systems.

4.2.3    You further acknowledge that, to the extent permitted by law, neither InsureMyRide nor the issuer of the insurance products, are liable to you in any way for any loss or damage at all and however caused, arising directly or indirectly in connection with the transmission of an Electronic Instruction through the Main Site, or any failure to receive an Electronic Instruction for whatever reason.

4.3    Purchasing insurance policies

4.3.1    Where the Online Site enables you to purchase insurance products or services online:

(a)    You and InsureMyRide (“the parties”) may enter into an insurance policy using the Online Site by InsureMyRide making an electronic offer via the Online Site and you electronically communicating your acceptance of that offer via the Online Site to InsureMyRide;
(b)    InsureMyRide may act on and process all completed Electronic Instructions transmitted or issued through the Online Site without further consent from or reference to you; and
(c)    InsureMyRide may treat an Electronic Instruction as authentic and is under no obligation to investigate the authenticity or authority of persons issuing or transmitting such Electronic Instructions, or to verify the accuracy and completeness of such Electronic Instructions.

4.3.2    Creating a binding insurance contract with InsureMyRide (as authorised representative of the issuer of the insurance product) via the Online Site is a two-step process:

(a)    the first step is to request a quote for the insurance product you are interested in and have selected (for example, by using the online “Get An Instant Quote” facility). Upon completion by you of provision all required details, the Online Site will provide you with a quote, subject to meeting underwriting guidelines, identified by a quote number. This quote and quote number will remain valid and accessible on the Online Site for up to 30 days; and
(b)    if you wish to purchase insurance in accordance with a quote provided to you by InsureMyRide via the Online Site, then, upon completion by you of all required details, step two enables you to accept that quote and create a binding insurance agreement with a corresponding InsureMyRide policy number subject to payment conditions in term 4.3.3 being met.

4.3.3    When entering into a contract via the Online Site, you will be taken to have communicated your acceptance to an offer of insurance from InsureMyRide only when:

(a)    the Electronic Instruction containing the acceptance of the offer from you is entered via the Online Site and is received and recorded in the main InsureMyRide database;
(b)    an InsureMyRide policy number is generated by the InsureMyRide database; and
(c)    InsureMyRide receives all required details of a current and valid payment card or current and valid financial institution account number (in either case a card/account which you are authorised to use and which is of a card/account type accepted by InsureMyRide), and to which InsureMyRide is able to successfully charge/debit the full premium amount, or the first premium instalment where InsureMyRide offers you the pay by instalments option. Creation of a binding insurance contract is conditional on InsureMyRide receiving such payment.

4.3.4    If you elect to pay your premium by instalments, then you may be able to select the particular day of each month (or other instalment period) on which your payment card or financial institution account number will be automatically charged/debited for the relevant payment.

4.3.5    Where a transaction is entered into between InsureMyRide and you via the Online Site for the purchase of an insurance product, a policy number will be issued by InsureMyRide via the Online Site. However, a binding insurance agreement is not conditional on the issuance or receipt by you of a policy number.  The failure by you to receive a policy number does not invalidate or otherwise prejudice the existence of an insurance contract or transaction entered into using the Online Site.

4.3.6    The existence of a binding contract is not conditional on InsureMyRide issuing, or you receiving, a paper confirmation of the transaction.

4.3.7    You are responsible for ensuring that you receive a policy number.If you have paid your full premium, or your first premium instalment where the instalment option has been offered to you and you have agreed to pay by this method, and have not received your policy number from InsureMyRide, you should contact InsureMyRide to request the policy number for your records.

4.3.8    Where you complete a quote on the Online Site and select an alternate payment option (meaning not a payment card payment online or a financial institution account debit payment), a binding insurance agreement is not created. Instead, you will need to make payment via an alternate option (such as paying by B-Pay, at an Australia Post Office, or by making a payment card payment to InsureMyRide over the phone). When paying by an alternate payment option, a binding insurance agreement will only be created once InsureMyRide receives your full premium payment, or when InsureMyRide receives your first premium instalment, if we have offered this payment option to you and you have agreed to pay us your premium by instalments.

4.4    Renewal payments

4.4.1    The Online Site may offer an online facility for renewal payment of certain InsureMyRide policies with selected payment cards.
4.4.2    The policy renewal notice will indicate whether online renewal payment is available.
4.4.3    When the renewal payment facility is available, an online renewal payment can be made by following the “Quick Renewal” link on the Online Site.
4.4.4    When making a payment for a policy renewal via the Online Site, you will be taken to have renewed that policy only when:

(a)    the Electronic Instruction containing the policy number, premium amount due and payment card details, and an instruction from you to renew the policy, enters and is recorded in the relevant payment database;
(b)    InsureMyRide receives all required details of a current and valid payment card which you are authorised to use, which is of a payment card type accepted by InsureMyRide, and to which InsureMyRide is able to charge the premium; and
(c)    an InsureMyRide receipt number is generated by the payment system.

4.4.5    A binding renewal insurance contract is conditional on InsureMyRide being able to successfully charge against your nominated payment card and InsureMyRide receiving payment of all applicable renewal amounts due for the policy (or policies) being renewed (either in a single payment or where permitted in instalments, by receipt of the first instalment sum).
4.4.6    The existence of a valid payment is not conditional on InsureMyRide issuing, or you receiving, a paper confirmation of the transaction.

5.    InsureMyRide’s Online Site: payments

5.1    All payments for insurance products, renewals, amendments or other services purchased via the Online Site (including additional premium or other payments which arise from policy amendments made using the My Insurance Site, as described in term 6.3), must be paid in full by clear funds by the due date specified in the relevant confirmation. In respect of instalment payments, the relevant instalment must be paid in full by the specified due date.

5.2    Unless provided for otherwise, all payments referred to in term 5.1 above are to be made by permitted payment cards (or permitted financial institution account debits, as relevant) at the time of purchase, renewal or amendment (as the case may be) of the applicable InsureMyRide policy or service.
In the case of a payment card transaction, you must therefore provide to InsureMyRide details of your permitted current and valid payment card, including:

(a) payment card type;
(b) name on payment card;
(c) payment card number;
(d) card verification value (CVV); and
(e) expiry date.

In the case of a financial institution account debit, you must provide to InsureMyRide details of your permitted current and valid financial institution account, including:

(a) the name of your financial institution;
(b) the full name of the account holder; and
(c) the account number and its BSB number (bank/state/branch number).

6.    InsureMyRide’s Online Site: ‘My Insurance’ self service site

The ‘My Insurance’ (“self service site”), which forms part of our Online Site, enables you to view, manage and change certain details of your InsureMyRide policy online. In addition to the rest of these Online Terms, the specific terms in this term 6 apply to the self service site.

6.1    All Accessing the Self Service Site

6.1.1    Most parts of the self service site are only accessible to you if you have “logged in” by providing certain details as requested by InsureMyRide on the log-in, registration and/or authentication pages of the self service site, relating to you and/or one of your insurance policies currently held with InsureMyRide. (Collectively, this information is your “Login”). You will only be able to “log-in”, generate a Login, and use the Self Service Site if you hold at least one current InsureMyRide policy.
6.1.2    You must not provide details of your Login to any other person. You must not allow any other person to use your Login.
6.1.3    You must not use the Self Service Site to access or modify the details of another person without their clear authority. Criminal penalties may apply if you do so.

6.2    Loading your policy details into the self service site
You may, in relation to any of your current InsureMyRide policies and using the functionality of the self service site, include details of those policies in the self service site and associate such policies with your Login (each such policy then being a “Loaded Policy”).

6.3    Amending your policy using the self service site
During the term of your policy, and using the self service site, you may have the option of adding, removing or amending certain accessories, modifications and other aspects of your policy. Any such amendment to your policy may result in an additional premium or sum being payable in respect of the amendment. You will be advised if this is the case. Any additional premium must be paid for in accordance with term 5 before the modification to your policy takes effect.

6.4    Your policy only
For the avoidance of doubt, the self service site only permits you (or where you are a joint policyholder, you and the other named policyholders) to view, manage and change certain details of your InsureMyRide policies. Access to a policy which is not held solely in your name or jointly in your name and the name of others is not permitted.

However, the self service site does not allow:

(a)    the removal by one policyholder of other policyholders from a policy (where a joint policy is held); or
(b)    the cancellation of a policy.

You should contact InsureMyRide by email or phone if you wish to request removal of a policyholder or cancellation of your policy.

7.    Valuation tools, calculators, games and other features

7.1    Our Online Site may contain or make available various tools, calculation devices, software programs, games or other features which assist you in calculating the optimal insurance policy, premium, or level of excess for you. Our Online Site may also contain other useful information.

7.2    Whilst InsureMyRide has undertaken reasonable steps to ensure that any such features or information as described in term 7.1 above are accurate and free from defect, InsureMyRide does not warrant the accuracy, adequacy, correctness or completeness of these features, which are provided on an “as is” basis, or their suitability for your particular purpose. The use by you of any of these features or any information provided is entirely at your own risk. The monetary figures used by these features in any calculations are estimates only and do not take account of your particular circumstances.

8.    InsureMyRide’s standard terms and acceptance criteria apply

All applications for insurance or other products made via the Online Site are subject to and must comply with InsureMyRide’s normal acceptance criteria (which is inclusive of the particular product issuer’s normal acceptance criteria) and are governed by the normal terms and conditions applying to each product or service requested. The terms and conditions of the insurance products InsureMyRide offers are contained in our Product Disclosure Statements. These documents also explain important information about InsureMyRide and the product issuers.

9.    Social media content you submit to our Social Media Sites

InsureMyRide shall not be liable in any way for such Social Media Site User Content to the full extent permitted by law and shall not be deemed or considered to in any way authorise, endorse, approve or support any material submitted by any Social Media Site User. InsureMyRide may screen and/or remove and/or request that the third party operator of any social media site or website remove any Social Media Site User Content without notice for any reason whatsoever. Social Media Site Users warrant and agree that: (a) they will not submit any Social Media Site User Content that is unlawful, fraudulent, or which may breach any intellectual property rights, privacy, publicity or other right, or is unreasonably commercial (for example, a ‘guerrilla marketing’ attempt), defamatory, obscene, profane, derogatory, pornographic, sexually inappropriate, violent, abusive, harassing, threatening, objectionable with respect to race, religion, origin or gender, not suitable for children aged under 15, misleading or deceptive, or otherwise unsuitable for publication; (b) they will obtain prior consent to the submission of their Social Media Site User Content from all persons who appear in (for example, in photographs) or have any rights in relation to any property that appears in or forms part of their Social Media Site User Content; (c) their Social Media Site User Content will be their own original work and, to the extent that any rights in that work (including copyright) are not owned by the Social Media Site User, they will obtain full prior consent from any person who has jointly created or has any rights in the Social Media Site User Content, to the uses and terms herein; (d) their Social Media Site User Content shall not contain viruses or cause injury or harm to any person or entity or device; and (e) they will comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including without limitation, those governing copyright, content, defamation, privacy, publicity and the access or use of others' computer, mobile communications device or any other communication systems.

9.3    Without limiting any other terms herein, the Social Media Site User agrees to indemnify InsureMyRide (and any of its related bodies corporate) for any loss or expense InsureMyRide and/or any of its related bodies corporate may suffer in relation to any breach of the above terms.

9.4    Social Media Site Users consent to any use of their Social Media Site User Content in accordance with term 9 which may otherwise infringe their moral rights pursuant to the Copyright Act 1968, including InsureMyRide or its affiliates and sub-licensees using and reproducing that Social Media Site User Content without attributing it to the Social Media Site User, or making modifications or adaptations to the Social Media Site User Content for the purpose of reproducing, publishing or displaying that modified or adapted content in another media. Social Media Site Users warrant and agree that they will, prior to its submission, obtain an equivalent consent from each other person who has created the Social Media Site User Content. The Social Media Site User agrees to indemnify InsureMyRide (and any of its related bodies corporate) against all costs and claims by third parties arising from a breach of this warranty.

10.    Warranties

Whilst reasonable steps have been undertaken to ensure that information is free from error, to the extent permitted by law, which law cannot be excluded, InsureMyRide does not warrant the accuracy, adequacy or completeness of Site Content or any Online Site User Content or any Social Media Site User Content, on any of its Online Sites. QUICK SPINS: Master Bike – There hasn’t been a superbike to cause such a stir in a long time

For a bike about to enter its second year of production, the BMW S1000RR hasn’t done bad for itself. It’s won just about every magazine test the world over, utterly blitzed the World Superstock 1000 Cup in Europe, won every Australian Superstock 1000 race it contested in the hands of Craig Coxhell, and very nearly climbed the top step of the WSBK podium with Troy Corser on more than one occasion.

It’s no surprise then that the S1000RR remains largely unchanged for 2011. BMW have raised the bar with the electronic trickery that comes with your new Bavarian superbike. There’s ABS, and while traction control is also a pretty new phenomenon for production machines, having it all in such a user friendly package makes this machine more than just another faceless four-cylinder sportsbike.

The BMW Motorrad WSBK team’s input has been a firm part of the S1000RR production development process, and that input has seen BMW fit a heavier crankshaft to the 2011 model. The heavier crank is designed to smooth out the S1000RR’s bottom-end power delivery – but it certainly doesn’t inhibit the legendary top-end punch of the DOHC, 16-valve, 999cc inline four-cylinder, which is still as mighty as ever. Acceleration is swift from the moment the throttle is cracked, but it depends what map you’re in (Rain, Sport, Race or Slick) as the relationship between twist grip movement and the throttle butterflies opening varies with each mode.

Getting that grunt to the ground is the powershifter-equipped six-speed gearbox that is an absolute knife-through-butter affair and fun when you’re short shifting through twisties.

The chassis on the S1000RR is compliant without being dull, quick without being twitchy. The BMW won’t turn with the absolute precision of something like the Aprilia RSV4 Factory, but it is inherently more stable which makes it a more pleasing proposition if the majority of your riding is done on the road. The chassis’ roomier dimensions also mean that you’re not as sore at the end of the day.

When you have simple additions like key-operated suspension adjustment it makes you wonder why the millions of manufacturers who’ve built a sportsbike didn’t do it before. You even get a chart to make sure you don’t get lost on the numbered clickers.

It may look white but the colour is actually a light silver metallic. Funnily enough it actually looks white most of the time but get it in the right light and it almost looks grey.

I’d recommend this machine to anyone who wants the best available compromise in a racebike/roadbike/just bloody good sports motorcycle they can buy today. Like the VMAX, the S1000RR is one of my favourite motorcycles – it’s a genuine landmark machine.

QUICK SPINS: Big Business – Often overlooked, the Boulevard is a mighty big powercruiser

When you think of a powercruiser, you instantly think of bikes like the Yamaha VMAX, the Triumph Rocket III or even the new Ducati Diavel. But one bike that often gets overlooked in the all-or-nothing segment, that perhaps is worthy of such heights, is Suzuki’s VZR1800 M109R Boulevard.

Have a quick look over its CV and you’ll see it has the credentials. According to Suzuki it uses the biggest pistons ever seen on a production motorcycle – they’re nearly 113mm wide – the fattest tyre ever fitted to a Suzuki – a purpose-built 240-section sports-orientated hoop – and nearly 1800cc of V-twin grunt pumping out 160Nm of raw torque.

The sheer grunt is awesome, but delivered very differently than you’d expect a massive V-twin to deliver it. Staggered crankpins for primary balance, paired with a counter-rotating balance shaft between the crank and countershaft, and dual spark plugs make the Boulevard feel, sound and pull more like a big turbo-diesel than a lumpy V-twin. The power is smooth, enormous and on tap with no noticeable sideways torque-effect from the shaft drive.

The Dunlop Sportsmax D221 rear tyre tends to keep everything a little upright, but muscle the big thing around with a bit of force, keep the revs around 5000rpm and you’ll have the odd wide-eyed sportsbike or sports-tourer rider doing a double-take in their mirrors through the fun stuff.

The chassis feels solid and gives you feedback, complemented by big 46mm upside-down forks. Rough roads tend to have the thing moving around at anything more than cruising speeds, but that’s got to be expected from a bike that weighs a hefty 347kg and is 2450mm length.

The flat handlebar, with its downward bend would make a fairly involving ride for a tall rider. However, my 164cm frame took on a more of a horseshoe guise aboard the big cruiser and, with a heavy backpack on, caused me more than a few cramps on my commute home. Off with the pack and the ride became less of a chore. I could adjust myself in the low solo seat, or even stretch my feet to rest my heel on the top of the ’pegs when the road opened up, but I was wishing I was taller for nearly every kilometre I travelled.

The bike tested is the 2010 Limited Edition model, which adds an orange racing stripe from the top of the swoopy black headlight cowl down to the bottom of the rear guard. A colour-matched rear-seat cowl is added to clean up the typical cruiser lines, but conceals a pillion seat for when you need it. An embossed Boulevard logo is visible on the rear of the rider’s seat, custom gauges see a flat rectangular tacho set behind the long handlebar risers within the headlight surround, and a traditional speedo and digital odometer, clock and fuel gauge set above the filler cap on the tank. A handy gear position indicator has been included within the tacho.

There’s a nice mix of brushed alloy and chrome finishes, with the ’bar risers, switchblocks and filler caps in brushed aluminium – the aluminium switchblocks are unique to the limited-edition model, as are the clear indicator and taillight lens and the blacked-out engine covers and wheels.

The Limited Edition model is $500 more than the standard model, setting you back $19,490, making it the most affordable machine in the powercruiser segment, if you’ll allow yourself to include it. Ride it before you decide – it’s worthy.

QUICK SPINS: Road Thumping - KTM’s little R-spec Duke oozes fun, charm and enormous ability

KTM’s 690 Duke is a do-it-all machine. It’ll commute, it’ll scratch and it’ll turn heads. Treat it with a generous amount of R therapy and there’s rarely a rider’s face that the Duke 690 R doesn’t bring a smile to.

It has six more horses (4kW) than its smaller-thanimplied 654cc R-less brother, which KTM achieved by lengthening the stroke by 4mm. And with the extra 36cc providing a total of 52kW, the 690 Duke R is the most powerful single-cylinder production motorcycle there is.

Add to the already edgy look, high-spec componentry, trick lightweight wheels and a mere 148kg of weight, and you’re leaving most sportsbike riders shaking their heads in your wake at lights with 70Nm of immediate single-cylinder torque.

The R package sees the Duke gain a blackanodised top triple clamp, a carbon-fibre front guard, titanium aluminium nitride coating on the forks, blacked-out Brembo calipers, a KTM-orange tubular frame, white bodywork and orange rim-tape to tie it all together.

It is suspended on fully-adjustable WP suspension both ends, stopped by high-spec Brembo brakes, and the smokey taillight lens on the rear-end is complemented by a modern vertically-stacked pair of halogen headlights.

The typical single-cylinder buzz isn’t as rampant as you’d imagine on the big road-going thumper, thanks to an effective central balance shaft, rubber inserts in the footpegs and the odd rubber-mounted component.

The fuel-injected donk employs a ride-by-wire throttle, a good slipper clutch and an under-engine exhaust. The airbox and the battery have swapped positions, with the air intake happening from within the subframe underneath the seat, while the battery is accessible from under the steering head without having to remove anything to access it.

The long 865mm-high seat allows you to adjust your riding position depending on your riding. It allows you to sit right up near the ’bar on a narrow, twisty road, though when it straightens out you can reposition your weight towards the rear and stretch out along its length. And despite being on the hard side, the seat has you sitting nice and high, providing excellent visibility of all that’s around you. The similarly high ’bar makes it naturally comfortable and highly equipped for outright hooliganism.

At $15,990, you might feel it’s a hell of a lot of your hard-earned for a relatively simple machine.

But the KTM 690 Duke R is such a generously diverse machine if you let it be. Not many machines will get you to work quicker through traffic, get you from one end of a tight and twisty stretch with more enthusiasm or get you more looks of approval from passers-by than the R-spec Duke.
KTM’s 690 Duke is a do-it-all machine. It’ll commute, it’ll scratch and it’ll turn heads. Treat it with a generous amount of R therapy and there’s rarely a rider’s face that the Duke 690 R doesn’t bring a smile to.

Phillip Island to host 8 hour endurance race

Phillip Island 8 hour endurance race
Australia’s long and rich association with motorcycle endurance racing is set to take on a bold new direction when Victoria’s Phillip Island hosts an eight-hour event on December 2-4.

The 2011 Australian 8 Hour Endurance Championship will be held during daylight hours, starting at 9:30am and finishing at 5:30pm. It will be open to all the major classes, which compete in the Australian Superbike Championship, including Superbike and Supersport.

The event is presented by InsureMyRide and will be packaged into a two-hour television program, which will be broadcast on motorsport channel SPEED.

In line with many of the events on the world endurance calendar, including the iconic Suzuka 8 Hour in Japan, Phillip Island will begin with a popular Le Mans grid, which requires riders to run across the track before starting their machines and hitting speed.

All teams will be required to have a minimum of three riders, and final qualifying for the top teams on Saturday will be a cut-throat 20-minute session, which will determine the Le Mans grid for the Sunday morning start.

Although endurance racing formally returned to Phillip Island in 2010 when Wayne Maxwell and Josh Brookes emerged victorious in a cliff-hanger six-hour, the longer version of road racing at the circuit goes back to when it held rounds of the Endurance World Championship in 1991 and 1992 – just a few years after it was refurbished and reopened.

The first one, was won by Australia’s very own Robbie Phillis who combined with Frenchman Jean-Louis Battistini, and the following year British pair Terry Rymer and Carl Fogarty scored the honours to make it two wins in a row for Kawasaki.

But Australia really cut its endurance racing teeth in the 1970s and 1980s, when the Castrol 6 Hour production race was one of the blue-chip events on the local calendar, regularly attracting elite international riders and Australia’s finest such as Wayne Gardner and Kevin Magee.

The 6 Hour races at Amaroo Park, and then later at Oran Park, were full of magic moments and fierce contests - as well as tales of triumph and torture.

It’s that wonderful unpredictability which makes endurance racing such an exciting spectacle, and why 160,000 people have been known to line the Suzuka circuit for its annual showpiece.

And it’s no coincidence that the Phillip Island 8 Hour is modelling itself on the Suzuka event, as in the future the circuit would like to be reinstated onto the world endurance calendar.

“We are in this event for the long haul, and we’d like to attract more international teams in the next few years,” said Phillip Island Managing Director Fergus Cameron. “That will help to build a bigger and stronger brand, and with that we hope to draw a round of the Endurance World Championship, on top of the World Superbike and MotoGP events we already successfully host.”

Entries for the 2011 Australian 8 Hour Endurance Championship are now open to Superbike, Supersport, Superstock 1000, Superstock 600 and Bears competitors, with a number of support races on the Friday and Saturday.
Australia’s long and rich association with motorcycle endurance racing is set to take on a bold new direction when Victoria’s Phillip Island hosts an eight-hour event on December 2-4.

50cc scooters will be put to the ultimate test of reliability and fuel efficiency in the InsureMyRide Le Minz 24 Hour Scooterthon, presented by TGB Scooters and the Australian Scooter Festival.

From 12pm on Saturday December 17 to 12pm on Sunday December 18, a handful of teams and even individuals will tackle the arduous challenge at the Gold Coast Parklands venue.

Will the 50cc scooters stand the torture of 24 hours straight at full throttle? And will they live up to their miserly reputation or prove thirsty at the petrol pump.

These are just some of the questions that will be answered at the InsureMyRide Le Minz 24 Hour Scooterthon, according to Event Manager Mark Petersen.

"The Le Minz 24 Hour Scooterthon has gained a reputation of the toughest event of its kind in the world,” said Petersen. “Nowhere else do scooter brands get together and participate in such a unique challenge".

Scooters continue to gain traction as a cost-efficient and environmentally-friendly mode of transport, but just how hard can they be pushed?

We’ll have teams and even individuals testing the limits and seeing which brands and scooters go the furthest on the least amount of fuel or even just make it to the end.

In the 5 years we’ve been running the event close to 100,000km has been covered by the entrants and less than 5% have failed to finish, mainly due to rider error and not reliability.

The event will be run on the closed-course Gold Coast Parklands’ go-kart track and scooters will be fitted with transponders to measure distance travelled.

10 teams have already secured their entries into the event and are sparing little expense in preparing their pit areas to the highest standard – semi trailer setups, masseuses and even personal chefs will be on hand.

While the scooter and motorcycle industry makes up the majority of entries, past participants have included V8 Supercar drivers and Australian Superbike riders as well as TV and radio personalities, amongst others.

Visitors are welcome to attend with free entry for the duration of the event.

The InsureMyRide Le Minz 24 Hour Scooterthon is a prelude to the Australian Scooter Festival, which will be held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre from 17-19 February 2012, in conjunction with the Australian Motorcycle Expo.
