Scott records stunning achievements in Darwin

Glenn Scott ASBK Round 6

Glenn Scott has defied the odds and delivered a top ten outright result in the final race of the weekend at the sixth round of the Australian Superbike Championship at Hidden Valley Raceway with sportsmanship highlighting the final day in the top end.

Backing up from his sixth outright qualifying position and superpole result from Saturday, Glenn used Sunday mornings five minute warm-up session as an opportunity to test a varying setup which he and the team had hoped would bring them further up the field with two 17 lap races looming, though the unexpected occurred delivering the lead privateer team a dramatic setback.

“The warm-up started out great finding a solution to a few problems I was having on track. This allowed us to set our fastest time of the weekend. Unfortunately it all went downhill quickly on the conclusion of the session when we had a mechanical failure. After working flat out for 45 minutes on trying to find what we thought was an electrical issue was soon resolved with the help of Shaun Clark from Motologic turning out to be a mechanical problem with the top end of the engine.”

“A quick decision was then made to swap engines between the bike I crashed on Friday and the bike that failed in warm-up. With the help of Motologic, my team got the bike up and running just minutes before our first race. I can't thank everyone from Motologic and Adam and Dean for their extraordinary effort,” Scott said.

After a blistering start n race one which saw Glenn lead the whole field through turn one, the 21 year old then worked his way into a comfortable fourth position where he settled for much of the first half of the race. As the gap grew between Glenn and fifth place, it appeared as though the Team InsureMyRide Racing Honda would set in to finish in fourth before gut wrenching change late in the race.

“I was just managing my gap between myself and fifth and Josh Hook in third place had jump the start giving me the opportunity to take third if I held out fifth. Unfortunately with 3 laps to go we lost power in the engine forcing me to retire from the race. This was a massive disappointment for myself, my sponsors and my hard working mechanics. It was a hard defeat to swallow after having so many people help get me out on track and being only three laps from a podium,” Scott added.

“It was time to pack up for Team InsureMyRide Racing until only 30 minutes before race two where Dustin Goldsmith showed amazing sportsmanship and offered his Prostock zx10r 1000 to us to ride in race two. This amazing gesture was a blessing for the whole team and allowed me to get out on track and race the foreign machine to eighth overall and third privateer.”

“This was an amazing feeling and a massive relief to gain such needed points for the privateer championship. We are now sitting second by only 1 point, I can't complain after the hurdles we had jumped and the walls we had hit.”

“I can't even find the words to thank everyone that helped me get through this tough day. It was truly special to receive such support from Motologic, Dustin goldsmith and my whole team. It was an emotional day but we got through it and we scored points. I also can't thank Stephen Mion enough for helping me be in the best physical condition I could be all weekend. Never felt so good on the bike.”

“There is only one round left, fingers crossed we can take the InsureMyRide Superbike to the number one plate in the privateer championship. Thank you to my amazing sponsors Ipone, InsureMyRide, Red Cap, Shark Helmets, Unifilter, MSC, Bendix, DID, AXO and Inox,” Scott concluded.

Round seven of the Australian Superbike Championship takes place at Phillip Island, VIC from October 4-6.
