Scott leads privateers towards Darwin races

InsureMyRide Scott leads privateers towards Darwin races

Glenn Scott has experienced track temperatures in excess of 50 degrees and air temperatures of 33 degrees as the sixth round of the Australian Superbike Championship kicked off at Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin with Scott topping the privateer’s rankings.

The first of two 30 minute practice sessions saw Glenn come within less than two tenths of a second of the top five outright as he secured sixth place and first privateer. Of the twelve laps completed, Glenn’s quickest came on lap five with a 1:08.260 around the 2.9km circuit.

“The first practice started out great, we went to fifth with our quickest time. I pitted for a rear wheel change and then went back on track to push for a faster time. Unfortunately on the second lap through turn ten I came unstuck and had a massive front end lose, I was ok but the bike had seen better days,” Scott said.

Temperatures rose as the second session hit the track in the early afternoon at Hidden Valley with Glenn narrowing closer to the overall top five, again taking sixth outright and first privateer. Glenn’s speed came late in the session with his quickest time on lap 15 of 17 with a 1:08.361.

“We were forced onto the second bike in practice two, the session went well considering what we had faced, we got down to a time that was just one tenth off our morning pace which was impressive, I can’t wait to get out in qualifying and keep moving forward,” Scott added.

With just one bike to get him through the remainder of the weekend, Glenn headed out in the 30 minute qualifying session to look to continue his success created at past rounds. A quickest time of 1:08.373 on lap seven of 14 in the session saw Glenn take sixth outright and first in privateers, a position he transferred through to the Superpole and subsequent grid position for race one tomorrow.

“Qualifying went well, I’m happy to be first privateer on the grid however I’m a little disappointed not to have improved my time from qualifying to superpole, from our analysis it seems there is a little problem in the front end which is eluding us from lapping in the 1min07sec times, we have a setup to test in warm-up which the team hope will deliver us the result we are after.”

“I’m really excited for tomorrow’s two 17 lap races, to get a great start in the races and bring the Team InsureMyRide Racing Honda home in front of some factory boys,” Scott concluded.

Round six of the Australian Superbike Championship takes place at Hidden Valley Raceway, Darwin, NT from September 13-15.
