Scott claims Privateer Title at Phillip Island

Team InsureMyRide ASBK Round 7

Team InsureMyRide Racing’s Glenn Scott has successfully claimed the privateer title for the 2013 Australian Superbike Championship at the final round at Phillip Island, despite a string of setbacks across the weekend, Scott fought through to take the series win by just nine points.

After qualifying 13th, the Central Coast rider was forced to work his way through the field at the start of the first race, engine issues struck Glenn which hampered his run in the session, though the determined young gun was focussed on securing a top result with the Championship crown in sights.

“Unfortunately in qualifying we were fighting an engine breaking problem and gearing problem which forced me to make a mistake and select a false neutral in turn five which eventuated into a small crash, we regathered our thoughts and put together a good plan for Superpole.”

“With setup in the ball park and fixing our engine problem by changing bikes, we thought we had a good combination but unfortunately again we had more mechanical issues, I did lap time that didn’t allow us to progress which was frustrating and disappointing but the team located the problem and fixed it,” Scott said.

The team experienced vastly cooler conditions than that of the previous round in Darwin, with temperatures at around 13 degrees; the Superbikes took part in two twelve lap races for the Sunday program. Working his way up the field early in race one, Glenn settled mid race, setting his quickest time on lap four of the race to eventually go on to claim seventh outright and second privateer, setting up an enthralling battle for the final race and for the Championship.

As the final race of the event, temperatures had cooled even further than the earlier race, with a scenario setup for the series victory, Glenn set out to achieve success. Running at the front end of the privateer field for much of the race, changes in position forced Scott back in the field late in the race, though the determined young gun worked his way back to 11th by the end of the race which was enough for him to take the series win.

“It’s been an emotional two rounds with the amount of setbacks we have encountered but we pushed through every time and somehow it all fell into place this afternoon. I can’t thank my amazing mechanics enough for their extremely hard work and time put in. Bernie Hatton for teaching me how to ride the Superbike and helping me to believe in myself.”

“A massive thank you to my family for their incredible support and Stephen Mion for making me the fittest I have ever been, thank you to Luke Smith from InsureMyRide for believing in me and helping make all this happen.”

“It’s our rookie season in Superbike, rookie season running a team and Team InsureMyRide Racing have brought home the number one plate, it’s been an amazing year,” Scott concluded.
