16th March 2012 - 18th March, 2012

Over the weekend the Aark Racing InsureMyRide Triumph Team took part in five races. Mitchell Carr won all five races in the Supersport Class and was third overall in the Superbike Class. Positive result for the first outing on a bike being developed for the World Supersport Championship.

Saturday 17th March 2012:  What a difference a day makes, yesterday is was hot and sunny, today we arrived at the track after a night storm with lots of running water and racing was postponed until midday.

The first session was qualifying and Mitch put in a time of 1:36.5, which put him second on the grid behind the Yamaha R1 of Cru Halliday.

The first race started in wet conditions and Mitch got away in sixth position, and by turn three Mitch was a second clear of the third placed rider with Cru pulling out a lead of 1 second a lap.  Mitch’s best lap time was 1:36.4. and he came home second behind Cru and ahead of Chas Hern on a GXRS 1000.

The conditions had improved for race two, which started with Mitch second on the grid. From the start Mitch was dropping back and by turn one was lying fourth; the poor start was due to slipper clutch set-up.  By turn four Mitch was back up to second with Cru leading the way.  The Triumph 675R was no match for Cru’s R1 superbike and Mitch finished second putting in a best lap time of 1.34.2.   Mitch finished 1st in the Supersport class and 2nd in two races, which was a very good result for the InsureMyRide Aark Racing team.

Sunday 18th March 2012:  The team started the day feeling confident having resolved the problem with the clutch. The programme for the day was qualifying, with one race in the morning followed by two races in the afternoon. The qualifying times were inconsistent as slower riders resulted in lower mid and exit corner speeds. Mitch’s best qualifying time was 1:33.6, which put the Aark Racing InsureMyRide Triumph Team third on the grid for race one.

The start was much better, but still the Triumph was no match for the 1000 cc bikes. Going into turn one with Cru leading followed by Dan Stauffer, Chas third and Mitch in fourth.  With Cru and Dan getting away, Chas and Mitch were fighting for third up until the race was red flagged on lap three.

The grid for the restart had Mitch in fourth and with only three laps to go before the chequered flag, the InsureMyRide Triumph Team was unable to pass Chas and finished 4th with Cru winning and Dan in second place.

Held up in race one by the GXRS1000 of Chas Hern, Mitch went out in race two determined not to let it happen again and by the end of lap two had passed Chas and was gaining on Dan, riding an Aprilia RSV4.  On the final lap Mitch took Dan at turn four, around the outside, but at the finish line it was the Aprilia with the Aark Racing InsureMyRide Triumph Team 0.2 seconds behind in third place with Cru winning the race. Mitch’s best lap time was 1:33.4.

Race three started with the 1000 cc bikes getting the better of the 675R at turn one until Mitch took Chas on the outside into turn one.  The first four riders remained a good distance apart for the rest of the race with the Aark Racing InsureMyRide Triumph Team finishing third.

Top weekend of racing from the Aark Racing InsureMyRide Triumph Team with Mitchell Carr in good form.
