Yamaha's WR250F Revealed

Yamaha's 2007-spec WR250F enduro machine

Yamaha Motor Australia has announced its 2007-spec WR250F enduro machine has gone on sale at Yamaha dealerships around the country, with a recommended retail price of $11,699.

The new machine features a thoroughly revised 249cc, five-valve, DOHC, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, and a new aluminium semi-double cradle frame, the latter based on that found in the marque's YZ250F motocrosser.

The free-revving engine now has revised cam profiles to enhance low and mid-range performance, revised intake and exhaust cam timing and a new CDI with modified ignition mapping.

A closer ratio five-speed gearbox has been employed, along with a new dry sump lubrication system, which sees the model's oil tank located in front of the engine for better mass centralisation.

A larger radiator has been used to help the WR keep its cool, while the exhaust system now has a smaller diameter pipe and a shorter silencer, the latter placed further forwards.

The new frame actually uses both cast, forged and extruded aluminium to achieve controlled flex – meaning the optimal level of rigidity is provided no matter how or where you ride.

Although the frame has been based on that found in the YZ250F, the new WR250F features a 990mm seat height – 7mm lower than the YZ, but 15mm higher than the 2006 WR250F's seat height.

New Pro-Taper handlebars help keep the weight down, as do wave-type front and rear disc rotors, while a new rear shock has been complemented by revised fork settings up the front.

Yamaha claims the bike's weight is now 109kg (including ADR gear, indicators etc), which is pretty much the same as the model it replaces.

Completing the picture is all-new bodywork and graphics; a new headlight; a lightweight LED rear light assembly; a thicker, more comfortable seat; a new quick-release air cleaner and a new digital rally computer and speedo.
