Transmoto 12-Hour Powered By InsureMyRide a Roaring Success

Transmoto

A sell-out field of over 250 riders gathered just outside of Batemans Bay (NSW) for the inaugural running of the Transmoto 12-Hour, powered by InsureMyRide.

Held over the weekend of 12/13 March, the riders enjoyed brilliant weather, a quality track and a relaxed atmosphere for the entire duration of the event.

After signing on, each team nominated a member to ride the prologue course to sort the starting positions for the actual 12-hour race. A timing error saw the mixed-bag of team Transmoto 2 briefly sample the sweet taste of success, with a win in qualifying – by over 30 seconds – before Husqvana Racing's Luka Bussa rightfully demoted us to the back of the field.

With the sound of AC/DC breaking the early morning silence, the riders lined-up for a 6.45am start, heading off onto the 10km loop at 10-second intervals. The course contained all the elements expected of a top-quality event – loamy grasstrack, tight singletrack and a couple of creek-crossings to sort out the dry from the wet and pit areas big enough to flop onto after a hard lap.

As the day progressed, so did the temperatures, with even the Pros cutting back their riding stints from 90 to 60 minutes in the 30 degree plus temperatures. For the rest of us, one or two laps were the go – unless you were in the Ironman section, that was, with no team mates to pass the bars to, the whole 12-hours were literally in your own hands.

With the Husqvarna Racing boys using the event as pre-A4DE practice, the Overall was never in doubt, but every team had pride and camaraderie traded as lap-times fell, or rose, depending on fitness and determination.

Most of the teams made it to the end of the event, where monkey-butt and exhaustion gave way to smiles and satisfaction.

It was an awesome event and the lack of injuries – nothing worse than cuts, bruises or a bit of a bang on the head – meant that everyone could gather for the podium presentation.

The Ironman class was taken out by Batemans local Jack Legett, who completed a solid 23 laps solo. The Men's Pairs went to team Kell's Angels – more local lads in the form of Morgan Fitzgerald and Andrew Wensing. As expected, the Four Man class and Overall was captured by the clear favourites, Husqvarna Racing, consisting of Pro's Glenn Kearney and Luka Bussa, teamed with Transmoto's own "Master & Apprentice" duo – Damian Smith and Tom Kite.
