PETERSON SURPRISES IN MX NATIONAL SEASON DEBUT

Dylan Peterson has surprised many in his 2013 MX Nationals debut, placing an impressive 8th overall at Broadford yesterday whilst filling in for the TLD – Maxima Zero Seven Motorsports team in the MX2 class division.

Having received the call up just five days earlier to substitute in for an injured Kade Mosig, Peterson hadn’t competed at all in 2013 at a national level. It was a baptism of fire for the 21 year old Queenslander who hadn’t even ridden his KXF250 until yesterday morning’s practice session and was thrown straight out onto the most challenging MX Nationals circuit to date.

Despite his limited preparation time, Peterson managed to qualify in an impressive 8th place and set himself up well for his comeback performance.

After an average start and mid race fall in Moto 1, Peterson was able to regain his composure to finish in 8th place. In Moto 2 he improved further again, getting a much better start and running as high as 4th before arm pump slowed his progress, eventually relegating him to 6th at the finish and 8th overall for the round.

“It wasn’t a bad day for me. I really had no idea what to expect, as I haven’t been racing this year, so to get out and run towards the front of the pack was a good confidence booster. I’ve got a practice bike to ride now, so I’ll try to build on this for Conondale in two weeks time” said Peterson.

MX1 class competitor Cody Mackie was almost a non-starter for Broadford following a huge crash at the last round in Wonthaggi, resulting in torn ligaments in his right ankle. Mackie battled the extremely rutted and rough Broadford circuit to card a 13th overall for the round. The result was disappointing for Mackie given his high performance at earlier rounds.

“To be honest I’m embarrassed with how today went. I’m riding on one of the hardest working teams I’ve ever been with and they deserve better. I was just riding around with no confidence in my ankle, especially in the deep ruts. I know I’m capable of so much more; I just couldn't ride like I know how to ride. I’m going to take it easy this week to let the ankle heal some more and come out swinging in Conondale” expressed Mackie.

The 10 round 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals continues in Conondale in QLD on June 2.
