BMW Neck Brace Now Available

BMW Neck Brace

Although neck injuries in motorcycling are relatively rare, when they do occur they pose a great risk to the rider, and often have very serious ramifications. To address this fact, BMW Motorrad has released the BMW Neck Brace System – a support mechanism that offers protection to the rider against sudden forces that may otherwise lead to neck injury.

First shown to the public at the Intermot bike show in Cologne (Germany) in 2005, the system is the product of a collaborative effort between KTM and a team of specialists, including the product's inventor, South African physician Dr Chris Leatt. Made of carbon, Kevlar and glass-fibre reinforced plastic, the lightweight protector is covered in a soft foam, making it as comfortable as possible to wear.

Worn like a collar, the brace doesn't so much link the helmet with the rider's shoulders, as simply sit on the rider's shoulders, coming into play as soon the rider's head is suddenly moved from side to side, or front to back.

The system has already been tested extensively in competition, and in fact stunt supremo Christian Pfeiffer recently wore one in Austria's gruelling Erzberg Rodeo, where he finished in the top 10.

The BMW Neck Brace System retails at $1000, and one size fits all adult wearers. For more information, visit your nearest BMW dealership.
