Market Boom Powers On

The Aussie motorcycle, scooter, moped and ATV boom is powering ahead, with the latest stats indicating the 13.8 per cent rise in sales for the first quarter of 2007, when compared with the first quarter of 2006.

Major movers include BMW, with sales up 44.4 per cent, Yamaha (up 28.2 per cent) and Harley-Davidson (up 33.4 per cent), but the biggest increase hands down goes to Korean marque Hyosung, who - after selling a remarkable 759 units in January, February and March, has recorded an increase of a whopping 159 per cent.

Prominent among the big hitters sliding down the scale was KTM, that had recorded a drop in sales for the first quarter of this year of 17.1 per cent.

The strongest seller across the entire market was Yamaha's WR450F enduro (pictured), with 727 units sold in the first three months of 2007 - a 144 per cent increase on the 2006 model's figure for the corresponding 2006 period.

With petrol prices still high it seems more and more people are willing to get up on two wheels - or get back on two wheels - and every indication is that the boom times aren't over by a long shot yet.
