Ewan and Charley Head Long Way Down

Actors Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman

Three years after their global circumnavigation aboard BMWs lead to a smash hit DVD and book, actors Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman are it again – but this time, instead of heading the Long Way Round, they're heading the Long Way Down.

Departing this May, the pair will set off on a 25,000km journey on BMW R1200 GS adventure bikes, and will attempt to ride from John O'Groats, the most northerly point of the Scottish mainland, to Cape Agulhas – the most southerly tip of Africa.

The trip will take in some 20 different countries, including Libya, Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Botswana and Namibia. Their route has been chosen to encompass countries that will provide inspiration and power to themselves and others.

Ewan and Charley will be supporting charities such as UNICEF, CHAS and Riders for Health through their journey, which fans will be able to follow via their website, found at: www.longwaydown.com.

"I can't imagine not ever thinking about some adventure," said McGregor. "Long Way Round" changed us all – it bonded us all together and made our dreams come true – and it's not often something like that happens. Long Way Down is something you can not only dream about, but actually do," he said.

Their latest epic will also be filmed, with the resulting DVD and book able to be pre-ordered through www.longwaydown.com.
