BMW Expands In China

BMW Motorrad is furthering its interests in the rapidly developing economic powerhouse of China, with the marque recently opening its second sales facility.

The 'Boxer Café' was opened in the Chinese city of Chongqing by BMW Motorrad president Dr Herbert Diess, and will serve not just as a showroom for BMW products, but also as a meeting point, and an experience and communication centre for Chinese curious about the BMW Motorrad brand.

Chongqing was a logical choice for the facility, as it's the largest motorcycle manufacturing centre in all of China, with between 5,000,000 and 6,000,000 motorcycles produced there each year.

Chongqing is also home to the headquarters of the Chinese motorcycle manufacturing giant of LONCIN, staff of which will also be co-operating BMW's Boxer Café.

BMW views China as being of paramount importance to the future of the motorcycle industry, especially when it comes the sourcing of cost-effective, quality components.

"China and the Chinese suppliers are progressing extremely quickly," Dr Diess said. "Within a short time, there will be a repeat of what happened 15 years ago in other parts of the world in the supplier industry, and BMW Motorrad wants to be part of this from the very outset," he added.
